Meet Wolfie!! Wolfie is a new addition to our crew! He/She is one of Hootie and Morgan’s babies. Wolfie will be remaining with us because of his/her “superpower”. Wolfie has an arm up on the kids around here.

Many newly born axolotls lose limbs early on because as babies they only “hunt” for food by movement; so little newly developing arms and legs “look” like food. Thankfully they do develop a sense of smell a little later, which makes them much MUCH more picky about what they eat!

But, luckily for these little ones, their regenerative powers have them covered! They can regenerate any little lost linbs (and even more)!! #SUPERHEROES!!!

In Wolfie’s case, he/she didn’t quite lose the entire extremity so we ended up with TWO right arms!! Both fully functional; making Wolfie a powerful superhero in the tanks! Wolfie can out swim, out walk and out maneuver all of his/her siblingS!!! All while never noticing that he/she looks a little different than the rest of his/her siblings and friends!

And of course, like many of our fellow zoo friends… Wolfie’s “human” dad is well versed in this condition, so he/she has been welcomed (all three arms) into the Oishi Zoo with LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of open arms!!!

As an extra fun fact… Wolfie got his/her name because of that extra arm! Which could grow back at any point along the Wolff Crest (or Wolffian crest)!!
